Esurance Powers Up for World Wildlife Fund’s Earth Hour

Posted on March 25, 2009 by Guest in InterCall News and Events - No Comments

Here at InterCall, we love all of our customers. But, we have a special place in our heart for those who share our commitment to saving resources and making a difference. Later this week, one of our favorite customers, Esurance, will be powering down for the World Wildlife Fund’s Earth Hour.

The event urges individuals and businesses to turn off their lights for one hour to raise awareness about the connections between energy use and our environment. This year’s event will take place Saturday, March 28, from 8:30 to 9:30 PM in every time zone across the world.

Earth Hour is a global initiative of WWF in which millions of people around the world will cast a vote in favor of action on climate change by turning off their lights for one hour on March 28, 2009, at 8:30 PM local time. By voting with their light switches, Earth Hour participants will send a powerful, visual message to their leaders demanding immediate action on climate change.

Now in its third year, Earth Hour seeks to reach a billion people in over 1000 cities worldwide. Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Miami, Nashville, Las Vegas, Los Angeles and San Francisco are this year’s flagship U.S. cities.

As a special limited time promotion for Earth Hour, Esurance plans to offset the carbon emissions from vehicles insured by the auto insurance company, at no cost to policy holders. The high-quality carbon offsets purchased from NativeEnergy support a wind energy project in St. Leon, Manitoba, Canada, which feeds clean power to the Midwest grid, providing energy to eight American states.

To do our part, we will be encouraging our employees to volunteer their time at local Earth Day events like they did last year. Our sales teams will minimize travel to show customers how conferencing can reduce their carbon emissions by conducting their normally held face-to-face meetings with audio and/or web conferencing. What are you doing for Earth Day this year?

It is not a good idea to vote by turning off the lights. It would be better to vote by knowing how much carbon is produced making your cell phone or automobile or a movie. Just like a food item has its contents on the label, we should know how much carbon an item generates. Then you can vote intelligently. You can put your $ where you want it to go. If people knew how much carbon was produced in the creation of a movie and how many carbon credits are created by a windmill or a garden, they might just invest in a windmill or a garden than a movie.

Great move! I do think this will definitely help our earth. Climate change is indeed felt these days, it’s good that we’re promoting events such as Earth Hour. I will definitely do the same for our company this year, minimize travels and turn off lights for an hour. I’m sure it’ll help. Great read! This is such an inspiration!
