Telecommuting
The 21st Century Flex-Time

A generation ago employers rolled out ‘flex-time’ to accommodate working parents who wanted a better work-life balance. Today’s advanced conferencing technology has made telecommuting more appealing, and it is replacing flex-time as the preferred solution because parents can work the entire day from a home office. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, 4.2 million employees worked from home in 2000 and today that number has almost doubled.

Employers are finding that telecommuting helps them retain talented employees, particularly women. The Simmons School of Management in Boston reported that telecommuting is changing the way women have traditionally run their careers; now they are creating new arrangements with employers that could help lessen the impact of a looming labor shortage.

Telecommuting has also become more popular because the conferencing technology is easier to set up and use. Participating in desktop web conferencing is as simple as navigating Microsoft Windows and USB web cams are designed for plug-and-play. InterCall is proud to help people accomplish their business and personal objectives by connecting people across the world.
